Google Maps 5.7 Adds (more) Transit Directions

Android users should update their Google Maps application to version 5.7 prior to leaving for Sage Summit. This latest version of Google’s free map program now includes Transit Navigation (beta). Prior versions also included this version however now Google has expanded it to over 400 cities – including Washington DC.

When search for directions on Google Maps 5.7 you simply click the transit icon and it tells you which bus or train to get on and what time. While you are riding the bus or train you can now view Google Maps and by using the GPS the program alerts you when your stop is approaching.

How To Get From Reagan Airport to The Gaylord Hotel Using Metro

Attending Summit 2011 and traveling in by plane? Want to save on taxi fare from Reagan Airport to the Gaylord Hotel? When Sage was last at the Gaylord in 2008 I noted that the fare cost about $4 to get from the airport to the Gaylord Hotel and Convention center. The route is fairly easy – provided you know the secret. Traffic in Washington DC is notoriously awful – so your time to travel via mass transit might actually be quicker than a taxi or limo.

To use the DC mass transit, you will need to take two trains (about 20 minutes each) plus one bus (about 20 minutes). The bus drops you directly in front of the Gaylord Hotel. Washington DC traffic is such that mass transit is probably faster than Super Shuttle or a Cab (it’s also significantly cheaper).
